Method
  • Choose a glass object to engrave and clean it with the glass cleaner.
  • Trace the template you want to engrave on the glass, either, using stencil or by sticking the tracing paper on the inner side of glass and copying the design with the non permanent marker.
  • Put on your Surgical mask and goggles to protect your eyes, mouth and nose from glass dust, and earplugs to avoid the noise of rotary tool that can be distracting.
  • Using the rotary tool, start engraving your glass object on the pattern you drew.
  • For the wide area and broad pattern, use grinding bits and for finer lines and compact design use diamond bits.
  • Glass engraving will produce glass dust so wipe the glass often with the damp cloth to clear the surface. Continue drilling and wiping repeatedly until your design is finished and the engraving is complete.
  • Once your glass is engraved, clean it with the glass cleaner.

  5. Learning how to etch glass can be a fun a hobby to take up for fun or as a way to supplement your income. The easiest and most common way to etch glass is to use etching cream. The cream is painted onto the object with a foam brush and it eats away at the top layer of glass to leave a textured and frosted surface behind. If you wish to do a detailed glass etch the cream may prove to be limited. The other way to glass etch is to use some sort of rotary tool. These small tools are packed with high RPMs which can gouge the glass. If you have a good design, a powerful rotary tool and a steady hand then you can etch glass yourself.
